Family Trip to Avebury

So last Sunday I went on a family day out to Avebury, to celebrate my Gran’s birthday. Avebury is known for its Neolithic Henge monument, as there are three circles formed of rocks, and situated in Wiltshire. A lot of people will visit Avebury, as it is part of the Naitonal Trust, and it makes for a lovely day out. Avebury has a lot of sentimental value for my Granny as she spend some of here childhood there during the war. It’s amazing how some of my Gran’s favourite memories are in Avebury and she never really experienced any of the bad memories from the war, which most children living in cities would have. I took such lovely photographs on our day out and wanted to share some with you all.

Some of the rocks are huge and its fascinating to think how and why there were placed there. There are three different sites, a little distance between them, and this one hasd pleanty of sheep.

A tradition my Gran has whenever she goes to Avebury is she has to hug a rock, they did it as children and it has just stuck. So now when we go down we all do the same. You can also see from this photo how big the rocks are. We had 5 people holding hands circling the rock to give it one big hug.

So there are some of my photographs from the weekend. If you are ever in Wiltshire and need something to do then go and check out Avebury. It is a stunning place and piece of heritage that won’t be around for ever and is free to go visit. Don’t forget to hug a rock!

Hope you enjoyed this blog post and the photographs I took. Let me know if you have visited Avebury before and what you thought of it. Hope you all have a lovely weekend and a fresh new blog post will be ready for you Monday evening.
