Choosing your wedding party, I found was one of the biggest decisions we had to make. There is a lot to consider especially when choosing your Maid of Honour and Best Man, as they have some important responsibilities leading up to and on the wedding day. So to make the process easier for you I thought I would share with you some of my tips.
Maid of Honour
When choosing your maid of honour there are a few things to keep in mind when deciding who to ask. Your Maid of Honour will need to be someone you trust and get along really well as they will be your sidekick throughout your wedding planning. You need someone who won’t mind lending you a hand whether it be choosing dresses or writing out seat names. If you are quite an indecisive person then maybe choose someone who can help you make your mind up and lead some of the decision making. At the end of the day it needs to be someone you love spending time with and you can rely on.
Some people will choose their sister as a Maid of Honour where as others choose a close friend of family member, it’s all up to you.
Choosing your bridesmaids can be just as difficult and confusing. The number of bridesmaids you choose will depend on the size of your wedding but also on the number of Ushers you are having. A good way to start is to list out sister, cousins and friends you want to include and then take it from there. Your bridemaids will have a smaller role to play leading up to and on the wedding day but you still want to make sure they don’t mind helping as necessary and chose someone you trust. If you really get stuck on who to choose then imagine you wedding day and complete this sentence
“………. I can’t imagine anyone else I’d rather have by my side and celebrating with me on one of my most special days of my life”
At the end of the day as long as you have a bridal party that you love and can rely on then you are set. Also remember you don’t have to have a massive bridal party, I have a Maid of Honour and one Bridesmaid.
The best man has similar roles to the Maid of Honour, except they will need to do a speech at the reception. The best man is there to aid the Groom throughout the wedding planning and on the day. The main responsibilities he will have is helping to choose wedding attire, organise the stag-do and lead the Ushers on the wedding day. Imagine him as an older brother, he should be able to say yes to most things and guarantee the wedding will run smoothly! With these responsibilities in mind it is good to choose someone who is confident around people, organised, available when needed and also approachable. You could choose the groom’s brother, cousin, or close friend.
The Ushers main role will be on the wedding day showing people to their seats and generally making sure the guests are ok. Having reliable Ushers will really help on the day as it will make the Best Man’s job a lot easier and everyone will be able to enjoy themselves a bit more. The Ushers could be made up of brothers from just the groom’s side or perhaps brothers from both sides and close family. Generally ushers will be the same age or younger than the groom.
The groom’s party will have quite an active part during the wedding day ushering people to their seats and making sure everyone knows where they are going. It is up to you how you want to put the Bridal Party and the Groom’s Party together. We have a mix of family from both sides and close friends but it’s up to the couple to decide.

Such a huge part of your wedding, and such a HARD decision. That’s why I decided to keep it simple with only having a maid of honor and best man. No hurt feelings. Great post!
Thank you, I completely agree. That’s a good idea, definitely keeps it nice and simple. x
