Wedding Stationery

When it gets to about 1 year before your wedding, or once your venue, guest list and ceremony time have been sorted, it’s then time to start choosing or designing your stationery. Your wedding stationary is normally a reflection of your theme and colour scheme and will help tie everything together on the day. There are a number of things to think about when choosing what design you want, so let’s go through them.

Where do I start

To begin it’s a good idea to have a look on Pinterest to see what other people have used. Pinterest is great in the sense that you can type in “simplistic wedding stationery” and it will come up with lots of different stationary photographs that are all very simplistic. It will help you narrow down what you are looking for.

When you have narrowed it down you can then start looking on stationary websites to see what companies are offering.

What Stationery do I actually need

It can be really confusing at the beginning to work out what stationary you absolutely need on and before your wedding day. You will need to purchase all the items bellow,  otherwise it will make your wedding quite hard to manage on the day as these are all essential pieces.

Essential Wedding Stationery:

  • Invitations,
  • Order of service
  • Table plan (whether it be on one sheet or individual cards for each person)
  • Place cards
  • Table names or number

So moving onto items that aren’t essential but you could use to inform your guests a bit more. So these include: save the date cards, timings of the day, menu’s on the table, accommodation details.

Different types of designs

There are so many different designs and styles of stationary to choose from that it can take quite a while to choose, and your ideas may change as you starting researching. If you are looking for a rustic/country style wedding then maybe look at brown stationary with twine and dried flowers. On the other hand, you might want a very simple and elegant design so going for a white card with gold cursive text would suit your theme more. There are so many different designs to choose from and if you want you can always design your unique stationery with a professional.

One tip I have is a lot of wedding stationary website will have samples of invitations they can send out for free (or a small fee). This is a great way to see and feel the invites, giving you a better understanding of how the stationary will look.

I will be doing a blog post dedicate to invitations in the next few weeks so keep an eye out for that as it will give you a few more ideas on stationary if you are still stuck. Have fun planning your wedding and I will see you again Monday.
