Unwinding After a Long Day

We all have days when we get home and feel quick stressed or wound up by something that has happened and it ends up affecting your evening, even if you don’t realise it. There are a few things I like to do in the evening that really help me to unwind and relax so I thought I would share them with you.

Lighting a candle

One of the first things I like to do is light a candle. I am currently burning my DW Apple Blossom candle, which make the house smell like autumnal and I love it. If I want a really relaxing evening I tend to go for a lavender candle or Lazy Days by Zoella. There is something so relaxing about having a candle alight and watching the flames dance around. By changing the mood and smell in your home this will in turn affect your mood too.

Watch Some Youtube

I love catching up on a bit of youtube whilst dinner is cooking, it allows me to switch off and just immerse myself in something I love. I love watching beauty hauls and vlogs with my currently favourite youtubers being The Anna Edit and Hello October.

Having a bath or a long hot shower

I find I do most of my thinking when I am having a shower and I love having a long hot shower, when my hair needs washing. I will usually use my favourite body wash which is currently the Nivea Happy Time Orange Shower Cream, which smells of fizzy oranges (sounds weird but smells amazing!) I will usually have a bath at the weekend, when I have more time, and use a Lush bath bomb along with some bath salts. I will either watch something in the bath or just spend time to enjoy being on my own with no distractions.

Switch social media off

I find with being a blogger I am always on social media or getting notifications from at least one source. I think it’s good once in a while to just switch all your social media off, even if it’s just for a few hours. I usually turn my phone on silent and shut the social media tabs on my laptop.

Making the room feel cosy

Making my room feel cosy is one of my favourite things to help me relax and get ready for bed. I usually light a candle, or move the already lit candle from the lounge to the bedroom. We also have a wall of fairy lights behind our bed, so those are always turned on, I find the overhead lights too harsh, you need a softer light. We always make our bed with a grey knitted jumper and faux fur cushions so they help to make the bedroom feel cosy too.

Watch a Movie

I love snuggling in bed with a mug of hot chocolate and watch a movie or my favourite TV series. I am currently obsessed with Lucifer, just about to start series three, on Amazon Prime. Watching something in bed always helps me wind down, not going to lie I do sometimes fall asleep. I love being snuggled in my bed, feeling all cosy.

So there are a few ways I like to unwind after a long week or a stressful day. Let me know what you like to do to help unwind in the evening, I would love to know.
